How to Clean Up Your YouTube Homepage for a Better Viewing Experience

In an effort to provide YouTube users with a simpler and less overwhelming experience, Google’s video service has recently made some changes to help declutter users’ YouTube pages. These changes allow users to turn off or pause YouTube’s ability to track their video viewing and searching history, resulting in a cleaner and more personalized homepage. By following a few simple steps, you can enjoy a YouTube homepage that only consists of the search bar, Shorts, Library, and Subscriptions buttons.

Taking Control of Your YouTube History

The process of managing and turning off your YouTube history is straightforward and can be done on various devices, including mobile, desktop, and streaming devices. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to turn off/pause your YouTube history:

Step 1: Log in to YouTube

Start by logging in to YouTube either on the web or through the mobile app.

Step 2: Access Your Data

Click or tap on your profile image located in the top-right corner of the page. Scroll down and select “Your data in YouTube,” then navigate to your YouTube Watch History.

Step 3: Open Activity Controls

You will likely find that your watch history is already set to “On.” Select the arrow next to it, and it will open the Activity controls menu.

Step 4: Turn Off YouTube History

Scroll down to the YouTube History section and click the “Turn off” button.

Step 5: Pause the History

A pop-up message will appear, informing you that pausing your YouTube history will limit personalization services, including recommendations. This change will apply to all sites, devices, and apps where you’re signed into YouTube. If you’re ready to proceed, scroll down and select “Pause.”

Step 6: Confirmation and Optional Deletion

You will see a confirmation pop-up message. Click “Got it” to continue. Additionally, you can choose to delete old activity by following the prompts. This will remove your existing search and watch history.

Managing Your YouTube History

If you wish to take further control of your YouTube history by deleting specific activities, you can easily do so. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Access Your Data

While still logged in, click your profile image in the top-right corner and select “Your data in YouTube.”

Step 2: Find Watch History

Scroll down and locate the “Manage your YouTube Watch History” option. You can also manage your search history in a similar manner.

Step 3: Choose Deletion Options

Select the “DELETE” drop-down menu and choose whether you want to delete activities from today, a custom range, or all time.

Step 4: Confirm Deletion

A confirmation pop-up will appear. When you’re ready, click “Delete” to remove the selected activities.

Once you have completed these steps, your YouTube homepage should be gloriously blank, providing a clutter-free environment for your viewing pleasure. However, you will still have easy access to expand your Subscriptions and Library sections and discover Shorts from the sidebar.

Enjoy your personalized and simplified YouTube experience!
