Apple’s iPhone 15 Event: What’s Next for Apple’s Product Line-Up?

The recent iPhone 15 event showcased some exciting new products, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and Pro Max, as well as the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. However, there were notable omissions from the lineup, with no new iPads, Macs, or audio products being announced. While this may come as a disappointment to some, it has sparked speculation about another Apple event happening before the year’s end.

New iPads: What’s in Store?

Apple’s decision not to unveil a new iPad at the recent “Wonderlust” event isn’t surprising, as they have done this before. The last iPad launch happened in 2021 when the iPad mini 6 was announced alongside the iPhone 13. However, there’s still hope for those eagerly waiting for a new iPad. The current iPad Pro lineup, iPad (10th generation), and iPad Air (5th generation) were all introduced in October 2022 and March 2022, respectively. Given that the iPad mini 6 is now two years old, it’s likely that we’ll see at least a new iPad Air or iPad mini launch before the end of the year. The introduction of an 11th-generation iPad seems less likely, considering Apple’s recent release of a new version last year. As for the iPad Pro, we’ll probably have to wait until next year for any updates.

AirPods: Long Overdue for an Upgrade

Apple’s AirPods are undoubtedly popular audio products, but updates have been few and far between. It has been almost two years since the regular AirPods received an update and nearly three years since the launch of the AirPods Max. Many were hoping for significant updates to these devices during the iPhone 15 event, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The only AirPods-related announcement was the introduction of a new USB-C charging case for the AirPods Pro 2, which coincides with the release of the iPhone 15 series.

Expected Arrival of M3 Macs

M3 Macs

Apple’s Mac releases are typically separate from their annual September iPhone events, and this year was no different. The event didn’t include any announcements for new Macs. However, when Apple does release new Macs, it is expected that the highly anticipated “M3” chip will make its debut. The first device to likely feature this new chipset is the next-generation 13-inch MacBook Air. As for the rumored M3 Pro, M3 Max, or M3 Ultra chips, we won’t see them until the M3 chip itself is released. Since the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models were updated earlier this year with the M2 Pro and M2 Max, it is unlikely that we’ll see any more updates for them in 2023.

The Mystery of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 Finish

Apple Watch Ultra 2

During the iPhone 15 event, Apple announced the release of the second generation of its Apple Watch Ultra. While the new device featured improved internals and design, there was one missing element – the rumored sleek dark titanium finish for the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Instead, this year’s model looks similar to its predecessor with its light titanium finish. There are two possibilities for this discrepancy – either the rumors were incorrect this time around, or Apple simply wasn’t ready to reveal the darker finish and may do so later.

Apple TV: Nothing New for Now

Apple TV

Given that the latest Apple TV was launched in November 2022, it wasn’t surprising that there were no new announcements for this product at the iPhone 15 event. However, it was still possible for Apple to unveil something on the entertainment front. Unfortunately, with the ongoing strikes affecting the entertainment industry, it would have been in bad taste to make any entertainment-related announcements.

Another Event on the Horizon?

Apple Event

Apple held only one fall press event in 2022, whereas multiple events used to be common. However, with the possibility of another event or even two before the year’s end, we might have some exciting announcements to look forward to. Any additional events are likely to focus on new audio products, with a new iPad also possibly being introduced. However, it is unlikely that a new Mac will be launched in 2023, aside from a possible release of another 13-inch MacBook Air. If not, we can expect to see new Macs in early next year. Furthermore, there are whispers about a potential event for the release of Apple Vision Pro in 2024, which could introduce a myriad of surprises. As we eagerly await more news from Apple, it’s essential to stay tuned for any updates on their product line-up.
