Samsung’s Neo QLED QN90C: The Ultimate Premium TV Experience

Since its introduction in 2021, Samsung’s Neo QLED series of televisions has stood out as a benchmark in terms of display quality and features. With this year’s offering, the QN90C, Samsung may have just raised the bar even higher.

The QN90C is available in sizes ranging from 43 to 85 inches, and for the purposes of this review, we tested the 55” version. Priced at $1,999, it falls into the premium category. Fortunately, the QN90C justifies its price with its excellent performance.

Right out of the box, the QN90C impresses with its slim design and super-thin bezel, allowing the picture to stand out vividly. The standout feature, however, is the single leg stand in the middle, which adds a unique touch to the TV’s aesthetics. Although the stand assembly process may be slightly cumbersome, the sleek, premium look is worth the effort. While the stand has a slight wobble, it never felt unstable.

In terms of connectivity, the QN90C offers four HDMI ports (including one eARC) with full HDMI 2.1 support, ensuring compatibility with the latest gaming consoles and devices.

The QN90C runs on Samsung’s own Tizen operating system. While it may not be as user-friendly as Roku or Google TV, navigating through the interface is relatively straightforward.

The display technology used in the QN90C is Quantum Mini-LED, introduced by Samsung in 2021. The LEDs in this technology are smaller than traditional LEDs, allowing for better control of backlighting. Additionally, the QN90C incorporates microlayers within the LEDs to eliminate noise. The display supports HDR10 and HDR10+, providing a brightness of nearly 2,000 nits. This makes it suitable for most home and office environments.

One notable aspect of the QN90C is its anti-reflection film, which enhances visibility in well-lit rooms. Even in my living room, which receives a fair amount of natural light, I no longer needed to close the blinds to minimize glare. When watching Netflix’s Stranger Things, the display truly came to life, offering a visually immersive experience.

The QN90C also excels in local dimming control, which optimizes dark areas of the screen to enhance brightness in other areas. This creates a stunning contrast and ensures that dark scenes remain clear while colors appear vibrant. Fast action scenes showed no signs of blur, thanks to the TV’s remarkable performance.

Samsung’s Neural Quantum Processor provides exceptional upscaling capabilities, enhancing the depth and sharpness of content regardless of the original resolution. This allows even lower-quality content to appear near 4K quality. During my test with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the upscaling process impressed me with its natural and realistic results.

In terms of sound quality, the QN90C delivers immersive audio, even without external speakers. While it supports Dolby Atmos, the TV’s standard audio is sufficient for most users. Samsung’s object tracking technology further enhances the audio experience by directing sounds to the relevant part of the screen, adding an extra dimension to the viewing experience.

However, where the QN90C truly shines is in its gaming features. With a low input lag of under 10ms, a 120Hz display, support for variable refresh rate, and Samsung’s Game Bar feature, this TV offers an exceptional gaming experience. Accessing the Game Bar allows players to customize settings such as Game Picture Mode, Game Motion Plus, and even apply an on-screen crosshair. The QN90C provides one of the deepest levels of customization I’ve encountered in a gaming TV, making it a top choice for dedicated gamers.

In conclusion, the Samsung QN90C offers an outstanding premium-level TV experience. While there may be a few minor inconveniences, such as the stand assembly process, its exceptional picture quality, and gaming features more than make up for them. If you’re looking for a high-end TV that performs well in any environment and with any kind of content, the QN90C should be at the top of your list.
