Unleashing the Power of ChatGPT Plus and OpenAI’s Code Interpreter: Unveiling Data Insights

giant elephant

In this article, we will explore the incredible possibilities that arise from the combination of ChatGPT Plus and OpenAI’s Code Interpreter add-on. But before we dive into that, let’s address the giant purple elephant in the room.

I’m sure by now you’re aware of the giant purple elephant. Oops! Did I just make you think of it again? That’s precisely what we should avoid when it comes to data security – the elephant in the room. When using ChatGPT Plus, the AI must have access to your data, as it needs it to provide valuable insights.

Now, let’s dig deeper into the implications of this. To demonstrate the power of ChatGPT Plus, I had to upload a data set consisting of 22,797 records from my company servers. The question arises – what will OpenAI and ChatGPT do with this data? It’s a risk, but for the sake of sharing the data analysis process with you, I decided to take that risk. After all, it is my data, and I am confident that I am not violating any disclosure agreements.

However, if you decide to leverage the power of ChatGPT Plus for your own data analysis, you must carefully consider whether you and your company are comfortable sharing that data with an AI and potentially the entire internet.

What Data Are We Analyzing?

Now that we have addressed the elephant (and hopefully, you are no longer thinking about it), let’s move on to the data set I used for analysis. I focused on uninstall data, specifically data gathered when users uninstalled my WordPress plugins. Here is how the process works:

When users choose to uninstall either Seamless Donations or My Private Site, they are presented with a dialog box, which then sends the uninstall data to my server for storage.

Until now, I could only view the data in tabular form but lacked the time and resources to perform detailed analysis, create charts, or derive overall insights. However, with ChatGPT Plus and OpenAI’s Code Interpreter, the game changed.

Preparing ChatGPT for Data Analysis

To start leveraging the power of ChatGPT for your own data analysis, you will need ChatGPT Plus, which requires a $20/month subscription. Additionally, you will need to enable the Code Interpreter from the Beta Features tab in your ChatGPT settings.

Once you have everything set up, you can proceed to upload your data. Of course, before doing so, it is crucial to have a conversation with your management team about the potential risks involved in data sharing. Assuming you have decided to proceed, it’s time to upload your file. Simply click the plus sign at the bottom of your session screen and then upload the file. Don’t forget to hit return once you are done.

Unveiling Data Analytics Magic

Now, let’s explore the magic that happens when you combine ChatGPT Plus and Code Interpreter. ChatGPT is robust in its responses and tends to provide a lot of background information before getting to the answers. To keep things concise, I will mainly focus on the crucial insights provided by ChatGPT.

For instance, when I asked ChatGPT to calculate the number of records for each product, it provided an answer within seconds. The same goes for determining the percentage of records that contain comments. These powerful insights are derived from a vast amount of raw data and are invaluable for understanding users’ behavior and preferences.

Another fascinating aspect is the ability to conduct a thematic analysis of relevant comments to identify common trends and patterns. ChatGPT delivered a comprehensive analysis of prevalent functionality issues related to each product. The accuracy of these findings is astonishing, considering that ChatGPT has no prior knowledge of the software apps analyzed.

Let’s Visualize the Data

To add even more value to the analysis, ChatGPT can generate charts based on the data. For example, by requesting pie charts illustrating the uninstall reason codes for each product and year, we can gain valuable insights into user behavior and preferences over time.

While evaluating the charts generated by ChatGPT, it’s worth noting that in my case, the data spanned from 2020 to 2023. However, ChatGPT might reference different years in its analysis due to its lack of contextual understanding. Nonetheless, the insights derived from the charts align with the expected patterns and provide valuable information about user preferences.

Uncovering User Satisfaction

In addition to analyzing uninstall reasons, ChatGPT can also assess user sentiment. For instance, I wanted to know if users were more or less satisfied with a particular version of my product, Seamless Donations 5.2. By leveraging sentiment analysis on the records from that version onward, ChatGPT concluded that there seemed to be a “slight increase in positive sentiment” in the new release.

The amount of effort and time saved by using ChatGPT for this detailed analysis is remarkable. The level of programming required to process and analyze such a large dataset manually would have been tremendous.

A Real Productivity Tool

It’s important to acknowledge the concerns associated with uploading sensitive corporate data to an AI system like ChatGPT Plus. However, when the data involved doesn’t carry significant risks, ChatGPT Plus becomes more than just a novelty or parlor trick.

This powerful combination of AI and code interpretation opens up new avenues for real work and productivity. With the ability to process vast amounts of data quickly and accurately, ChatGPT can generate insights and analysis that would otherwise require extensive programming efforts or dedicated data teams. And all of this can be achieved with a straightforward prompt.

Whether you are a solo professional or part of a larger organization, ChatGPT Plus is a tool that belongs in your productivity toolbox. While concerns about data privacy persist, the value it brings to data analysis and decision-making cannot be understated.

So, embrace the power of ChatGPT Plus and OpenAI’s Code Interpreter, and get ready to uncover hidden gems within your data. Just remember, don’t think about the giant purple elephant.
