Google Unveils Software Updates for Android Auto and Google Integrated Cars

In an exciting announcement, Google has revealed a range of software updates for Android Auto and vehicles equipped with Google integration. These updates not only enhance productivity but also expand entertainment options for drivers.

At the forefront of these updates is the ability for Google drivers to join WebEx or Zoom meetings directly from their car displays. This feature was previously announced at I/O 2023 and is designed to make it “easy and safe” for drivers to quickly join scheduled meetings. It is important to note that the meeting apps will only work in an audio-only capacity, ensuring that drivers remain focused on the road.

To further enhance entertainment offerings, Google is rolling out Prime Video on the Google Play app for select vehicles, including Renault, Polestar, and Volvo Cars. This feature, available for “parked entertainment,” will allow drivers to stream their favorite shows and movies. In addition, Google is introducing Chrome-based internet browsing, providing even more options for drivers to access the web while on the go. Internet browsing was previously available through the standalone app, Vivaldi, but will now be integrated within Google Play.

Expanding the functionality of the display, Google is introducing the Weather Channel app, which will provide hourly forecasts to drivers. This will allow drivers to plan their journeys and stay informed about weather conditions. Additionally, a “Trip View” radar will display live maps, particularly useful for severe weather events.

In terms of safety, Google is introducing a follow-me alert feature, enabling third parties to track a vehicle. This feature can enhance security and peace of mind for vehicle owners, knowing that their car’s location can be monitored by selected individuals.

On the topic of digital car keys, Google is finally making them available in select Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia models in the US and Canada. Compatible with Pixel and Samsung devices, the digital car key allows drivers to use their phones to lock and unlock their vehicles. Furthermore, drivers can wirelessly share digital keys with family and friends, making it convenient and secure to lend or borrow vehicles.

These software updates demonstrate Google’s commitment to enhancing both productivity and entertainment for drivers. With the ability to join meetings, stream shows, browse the internet, access weather forecasts, and utilize digital car keys, Google is providing a seamless and enriching driving experience.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey as Google takes your driving experience to the next level!
