The Motorola Razr Plus is taking the flip phone to a whole new level. With its 3.6-inch cover display, it offers the largest screen real estate among clamshell foldables. Unlike its competitors, Motorola has gone above and beyond to fully utilize the potential of its outer screen, providing users with an immersive and interactive experience. After spending a week with the Razr Plus, I have discovered five awesome things that can be done with its cover display that truly set it apart.

Moo Time: The Best Clock Style

Motorola has created a range of nine different clock styles for the cover screen, but one stands out from the rest – “Moo time”. This adorable character named Moo not only sits on your cover screen, but also reacts to your taps. The best part is that Moo changes with the time of the day, making it a delightful companion. From brushing its teeth in the morning to coming back from work on a subway in the evening, Moo is intuitive, playful, and always a joy to have around.

To select the Moo time clock style, simply follow these steps: 1. Open Settings. 2. Go to External Display. 3. Tap Lock screen clock faces. 4. Select Moo time.

Run Any App You Like

Unlike Oppo’s Find N2 Flip, which limited the screen to widgets, the Razr Plus allows you to run any app you want on the cover screen. Whether it’s YouTube, Microsoft Teams, or your favorite social media apps like Twitter and Instagram, you have the freedom to make the most of your cover display. This feature has proven to be incredibly convenient, especially when responding to messages on messaging apps. With just a tap on the notification, the chat opens, and you can easily type your response using the full-fledged keyboard on the cover display. It’s a seamless experience that saves time and keeps you focused.

To select the apps you want to use on the cover screen, follow these steps: 1. Unlock your phone while keeping it folded. 2. Swipe once to the right. 3. Tap on the Pencil icon in the top-right corner. 4. A list of almost all the installed apps will appear. 5. Tap to select the ones you need on the cover screen. 6. Tap on the Tick icon at the top-right corner. 7. All the selected apps will be available on the Apps screen of the cover display.

Capture Good-Looking Selfies with Rear Cameras

Most Android phones have underwhelming front-facing selfie cameras, but the Razr Plus takes a different approach. It allows you to use the rear cameras for taking selfies, providing you with a better quality photo and a fullscreen viewfinder. The best part is that accessing the camera is as simple as a twist of the wrist. No need to unlock the phone and tap on the camera icon. Just a quick twist and you’re ready to capture stunning selfies with the rear cameras. It’s a game-changer that enhances the overall experience.

Games Made for the Cover Display

The Razr Plus offers seven pre-installed games, with the option to download more. Games like Marble Mayhem and Astro Odyssey provide a unique and enjoyable gaming experience that takes advantage of the cover display’s capabilities. Marble Mayhem makes use of the phone’s motion sensors, allowing you to control the game by turning and rotating the phone. Astro Odyssey, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the Chrome dinosaur game and is perfect for killing a few minutes of boredom. These games, along with the customizable options, add a fun element to the Razr Plus.

Lots of Customization Options

While most flip phones offer limited widgets for the cover screen, Motorola takes customization to a whole new level with the Razr Plus. You have the freedom to choose from a variety of panels designed specifically for the cover screen. Whether it’s an app launcher, contacts, calendar, weather, games, or even Spotify, Google Fit, and Google News, you can personalize your cover screen according to your preferences. However, it’s worth noting that YouTube Music and Apple Music users are limited to only having a Spotify panel on the cover screen.

To customize the panels, follow these steps: 1. Unlock your phone. 2. Tap and hold on the cover screen. 3. A menu with three options will appear: Manage panels, Wallpapers and shortcuts, and Lock screen clock face. Tap on the first one. 4. A horizontal list of panels will appear, allowing you to drag and drop your desired ones onto the screen. 5. Tap on the tick icon in the top-right corner to save your changes.

The Standard for Cover Screens

The Motorola Razr Plus sets a new standard for the cover screens of clamshell foldables. While rumors suggest that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 may offer a similar-sized cover display, it remains to be seen if it will provide the same level of functionality. Regardless of what the competition brings, the Razr Plus remains a shining example of how folding flip phones should handle the cover screen. With its large screen, extensive settings, and the freedom to customize and personalize, Motorola has created a truly exceptional device that takes user experience to new heights.
